Maggie Small, Assam & Nagaland Hornbill Festival & Living Bridges of Meghalaya
Spectacular Experience: I've just returned from the Hornbill Festival and Living Bridges with Travel the Unknown. It was an explosion of colour and tribal history. We were lucky to meet elderly Headhunters from the Konyak tribe in Mon, Nagaland. The tribe borders India and Burma straddling the Konyak Chief's home. He sleeps in Burma and eats in India. They were one of the many tribes we witnessed displaying their song and dance at the Hornbill Festival at historic Kohima. I added Living Bridges where tribes trained the roots of Indian Rubber Trees to grow over the river. Our guide took us to Umkar Living Root Bridge in Siej, it's the only one in original state without planks over the roots for ease of tourists to cross. It was a great experience. And Travel the Unknown have been offering this trip for many years so are aware of the distances and conditions of the roads and offer an itinerary to suit. I highly recommend this trip.
