Deposit & Balance Payments

Deposit: Trips starting within 12 months
In order to secure your place on a tour, the deposit per tour is 30% of the total tour cost (including any single supplement and tour extensions). The final balance is due 10 weeks before your departure date. If the trip start date is within 10 weeks then the full trip cost would be immediately payable.

Deposit: Trips starting after 12 months
In order to secure your place on a tour, the deposit is £400 I US$500 per person per tour. At 12 months prior to departure, the balance of the 30% deposit would be payable. The final balance is due 10 weeks before your departure date.

Balance Payment
The final balance will be payable 10 weeks before the start date of your trip.

Payment Plan (*Optional*)
Based on positive client feedback to a recent trial, we have now introduced the option of a payment plan allowing you to stagger the cost of your trip. If your trip departs in 5 months or more from the time of booking, 30% deposit would be payable and the remaining balance would be paid in monthly instalments until the final balance due date (10 weeks before your departure). Please speak to us regarding this option.

Full Payment Upfront (*Optional*)
If your trip departs in more than 4 months and you pay for your whole trip in advance, then you would be eligible for a free guidebook. The usual cancellation terms and conditions would still apply.

Payment Methods

The preferred method of payment is bank transfer (most UK banks do not charge for this). Our bank details for the relevant currency can be found on our bank details page.

We can accept payment by debit or credit card. Please ask us for a link to our secure payment portal on our website if you wish to pay this way. Please note, foreign cards incur a 5% surcharge (the merchant provider processing fee).

We can also accept payment by GBP cheque, which should be made payable to 'Travel The Unknown' and sent back to our office address as stated on the form and signature below. Foreign currency cheques cannot be accepted. Note, if paying by cheque we will not be able to book any flights until the cheque has cleared, and airfares are subject to change, so the overall price may increase.

Book your flights

We want to give you maximum flexibility and minimum stress when it comes to booking flights, so our flight experts are happy to organise and book your flight itinerary for you. If you are booking your flights through us, full payment has to be made at the time of booking these. You can, if you prefer, book your own flights.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. As a minimum, we require that your insurance covers you for medical expenses, including emergency repatriation. We also strongly recommend you are covered for personal liability, loss of luggage and personal effects. You will be required to give details of your insurance prior to departure. Travel the Unknown do not recommend which travel insurance to take out however we do have a partner who offers travel insurance. For clients based in the UK or Ireland you can buy online direct with Accident & General on the link below:
