Intro

With over 7000 years of history, Malta captures the imagination of first time and return travellers alike. It is the perfect size for exploration; one can visit ancient astronomy temples in the morning, view a Carravaggio masterpiece at lunch and dine at a oceanfront restaurant in the evening.

Malta's main island is the ideal base for exploring the capital of Valletta and the historic cities of Mdina and Mosta.  Mnajdra, Hagar Qim and the Hypogeum give important insight into ancient beliefs, while the forts and palaces established by the Knights of St John show Malta's strategic importance Medieval times. Food and wine gurus can take the opportunity to taste delicacies made with locally-grown produce and prepared according to traditional recipes.  And of course, for those wishing to escape the cooler weather at home, a wide variety of beaches, lidos and swimming areas are easily accessible.

For the off-the-beaten-track traveller, the smaller islands of Gozo and Comino can be accessed by a short ferry trip (or private speedboat for the adventurous). On arrival, once can find incredible scenery, azure seas, friendly locals and quiet towns perfect for a distraction from the hubub of city life.

Due to its strategic location, Malta has been under various rulers, from the time of the Phoenicians. Inhabited since about 5000 BC, Malta is home to megalithic temples that predate the pyramids and several other archaeological and historic monuments. In a single day one can visit ancient astronomy temples in the morning, view a Carravaggio masterpiece at lunch and dine at a oceanfront restaurant in the evening. Whether you are looking for a culture or an adventure centric trip, a city break or just relaxing by the sea side, this little country packs a big punch.
