In the wake of Covid 19 and the uncertainty travellers are facing, we wanted to reassure you that our team is monitoring the WHO and FCO government advice closely, and working hard to answer your queries as quickly as possible.

We would also like to thank many of our clients who have sent us kind words of support during this challenging time, and for their flexibility in rescheduling upcoming trips where possible.

We have also implemented a work from home scheme in the interest of social distancing and assuring the health of our team. Therefore, we are only contactable by email, and are not available for drop-ins. In light of the heavy workload we are currently experiencing we appreciate your understanding that our response times may be slower than usual.

Naturally you may have concerns about making new travel plans at this time, please do not hesitate to get in touch with one of our dedicated travel specialists for any help or advice you might need. What is a flexible deposit?

A flexi-deposit means that you are able to move your deposit from one tour to another, either a different departure date or a new tour entirely. In light of recent events, we understand the hesitation to put a deposit down when there is uncertainty, but we know that you still want to travel too. By introducing our new flexi-deposit, we are giving you the flexibility to change your mind about one tour or departure, and move to another. Terms and conditions apply (see below).

Terms and Conditions

  • The deposit can only be moved if this does not affect the 'Guaranteed' status of the tour departure the client is originally booked on.
  • The deposit can only be moved to a tour if this makes the tour departure 'Guaranteed' or the tour is already 'Guaranteed'.
  • The deposit can only be moved subject to the availability of the trip you are looking to move to.
  • The deposit can only be moved from one tour booking to another departure date once.


  • The cost of a postponed tour may vary according to new dates, and any such surcharges would apply.
  • The price of the new tour booked would be applicable. 
  • Monies cannot be moved to a different departure once the tour is deemed viable.
  • If your original booking makes a tour 'Guaranteed' then you will only be able to move your deposit on a case by case basis.
  • Flights are not covered by this policy as terms for flight cancellations and amendments are at the discretion of the airline.
  • This would exclude any non-refundable services, which are services that Travel The Unknown pays for in advance and cannot be recovered – e.g. safari permits, cruises, train journeys and certain other services.
  • Flexi-Deposit terms are only applicable to bookings after 6th March 2020 and while the Flexi-deposit scheme is still open.
