Day 1
Arrive into Guwahati airport. Your guide and driver will greet you at airport for onward drive to the Eco-Camp at Nameri. Arrive before sunset and dine in the open air banquet area and feast on mouth-watering Assamese cuisine. Have a drink by the bonfire and gaze at the night sky. Overnight in excellent bamboo tents, complete with comfortable bamboo beds and attached bathroom. Meal plan: D
Day 2
Morning chai, then set off on walking safari in Nameri National Park. Famous for its wild elephants, barking deer, langue monkeys and wild cats. Return to Eco-camp for hearty breakfast. Relax, then take a gentle boat ride down the Bhorelli River observing wildlife and birdlife. Stop off on the river bank for a freshly cooked lunch. Rest of day free to relax. Optional activities: village walk, nature walks. Dinner and overnight at the Eco-camp. Meal plan: B,L,D
Day 3
After breakfast, leave for Kaziranga National Park, home to unicorn rhinos and the densest population of tigers. Check-in to excellent cottage, enjoy lunch, then set off on afternoon game drive. Wildlife includes: endangered unicorn rhinos, tigers, barking deer, elephants, buffalo, monkeys,wild boar and more. Return to cottage. Dinner at the resort and enjoy drinks by the bonfire. Overnight in Jupuri Ghar. Meal plan: B,L,D
Day 4
Early morning wake-up for elephant-back safari in the national park. Spend an hour on elephants and get up close and personal to the endangered unicorn rhino. Morning is the best time to spot animals in Kaziranga. Return to cottage for breakfast. Morning free to relax. After lunch, embark on afternoon game drive for more wildlife spotting. Dinner and overnight at Jupuri Ghar. Meal plan: B,L,D
Day 5
Breakfast followed by visit to Panbari Forest Reserve. Take a walk through the nearby tea plantations. The forest contains more wildlife, including the elusive hoolock gibbon. Lunch. Afternoon free. Optional activities include village walk (Mising Village) or game drive (extra cost applicable). Dinner and overnight at Jupuri Ghar. Meal plan: B,L,D
Day 6
Early breakfast, then leave for Guwahati for afternoon flight to Kolkata. Greeted by Travel The Unknown representative for transfer to hotel. Rest of day free. Overnight in Kolkata. Meal plan: B
Day 7
After breakfast, set off on an eye-opening walking tour (4 hours) in the 'City of Joy'. You will take in some of the lesser-known streets of Kolkata famous for carpentry and metalwork. Visit the colourful flower and fruit markets, one of the largest in India. Pass by wrestlers limbering up for traditional Indian wrestling, then hop on board the water taxi that ferries passengers along the Hooghly. Visit the area first colonised in Kolkata and also the house of Rabindranath Tagore, Bengal’s most famous literary genius. Lunch en-route. Afternoon sight-seeing by car, including colonial sites such as the Victoria Memorial, St Paul's Cathedral and the High Court. Also visit the remarkable work done by Mother Teresa's Sisters of Mercy. Day 8
After breakfast, transfer to the departure point for your boat ride into the Sunderbans. Snacks and drinks served on board the boat. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Sunderbans is home to the world’s largest mangroves and largest number of Royal Bengal tigers. Check in to your cottage at the Camp. Savour an excellent lunch in the open buffet area. Leave for your afternoon boat ride along the Sunderbans many waterways and visit the watch tower. Tea/coffee and snacks served onboard. Return to camp for evening buffet dinner, followed by traditional folk dance and music. Overnight in Sunderbans. Meal plan: B,L,D
Day 9
Early morning tea served at your cottage. Set off on boat ride through mangroves and creeks in search of tigers. It’s usually the best time to catch glimpses of these majestic predators. Breakfast served on-board. Stop off by bank, and take a canopy walk above the forest. Return to buffet lunch at camp. After a rest, take a walk to the local village, where you will see kids walking home from school, beautiful thatched huts, open fields and a vibrant market place. Return to camp for tea and snacks, followed by a short film on the Sunderbans. Buffet dinner at camp. Overnight in Sunderbans. Meal plan; B,L,D
Day 10
Morning tea served at cottage. Boat ride with breakfast on-board. as you cruise through more mangroves and creeks admiring the scenery as well as looking out for more of the Sunderbans’ wildlife. Return to camp for buffet lunch and then transfer to Kolkata by boat and minibus. Transfer to hotel for dinner. Overnight in Kolkata. Meal plan: B,L
