Indo-European and Dravidian. More

The languages of India primarily belong to two major linguistic families, Indo-European (whose branch
Indo-Aryan is spoken by about 70% of the population) and Dravidian (spoken by about 22%). Other languages
spoken in India come mainly from the Austro-Asiatic and Tibeto-Burman linguistic families, as well as a
few language isolates.

The food in North East India has many influences - from mainland India, Tibet, China and Burma. Assamese dishes tend to
be more similar to mainland Indian dishes than other parts of the North East though not as spicy. However there are exceptions!
Locals eat a lot of duck, chicken and pork, as well as several vegetarian dishes but fish is the regional favourite
and many types of local fish are available as well as fish from further afield.
