We were both bitten by the travel bug back in 1996 during our days as exchange students in Germany. Since then, we have travelled to over 70 countries, visiting those places generally off the beaten track. We were particularly drawn to remote places where local customs and cultures had not been impacted by tourism.
Due to the difficulties with arranging logistics and permits, it was immediately clear that the majority of tour operators stayed away from these places. Hence Travel The Unknown was born with the aim of helping you discover these unspoilt hideaways in some of the most off the beaten track locations on Earth.
Aware of the pitfalls of large tour groups, we have kept our ecological and cultural footprint as small as possible. By keeping our group sizes to a minimum, we bring the benefits of tourism without the negative aspects of mass tourism. We have gone to great lengths to ensure we remain a 100% carbon neutral company and invest a significant proportion of our income into local community projects, so that the locals benefit directly from our tours.

Travel The Unknown is a UK based tour operator specialising in off the beaten track travel in some of the least explored places on Earth. We are starting with off the beaten track tours in remote North East India - Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
